The big loop

It's rare, but it's happened again... I heard a new term and searched for it in Google and found *nothing* related to it's true meaning.  The term was "", which is what NASA calls the open communication channel which is used for communications with the () and the space shuttle.  If you listen to NASA TV you hear occasional references to the big loop.  NASA has other preferred communication channels with higher bandwidth and privacy, but they have incomplete coverage.  The  operates 24/7 everywhere all of the time.  I was hoping to use Google to find out how we can listen to it, but no luck, so far.

Minor Blogger glitch

Blogger continues to hold up fairly well, but I did run into one minor glitch last week where I did not get an email message confirming a new post. I had submitted the post via email and it did in fact get posted to the blog, but no confirmation email message was received. I've successfully email posted since then and got an email confirmation each time. Oh well, I guess NASA isn't the only organization that has intermittent glitches.

Status of my blogging cloud on Saturday, July 30, 2005

As of today, my blog "cloud" is 933 hits in Google, but that's 171 displayed hits, and 855 total hits, compared to 3,570, 185, and 3,390 way back on July 4.  My is defined as the results of a Google search of my name in quotes and the word "blog".  Ultimately, the second number is the most accurate or reliable representation of your blog cloud's size.

I suspect that the numbers bounce around erratically since blogs sometimes have lists of recent comments, and a number of my older comments simply fell off those lists.  That's life, but there is also the lesson that you need to stay current and can't thrive for very long on old contributions.

Over time, a number of blogs will simply disappear, although if they are hosted on a service such as Blogger, their archived content should stay around indefinitely.

Another issue is that Google's web crawler and database mirroring are somewhat erratic, so the numbers can bounce around even if the actual content on the web remains unchanged.

My strategy for raising these numbers is to continue to make quality comments on the blogs of others, as well as to post my own blog posts when I feel that I have something to say.  Unfortunately, I've been so busy with my move to Boulder, Colorado that I've been remiss in both blogging by own posts and commenting on others.

Blogger holding up nicely

I've been very busy over the past month, including a move from New York City to Boulder, Colorado and unable to do very much blogging.  I would note that Blogger has been holding up nicely during that time.

Right now, I'm busy updating my blog profiles to update my location to Boulder, Colorado.

Busy and moving

I haven't been blogging as much over the past two weeks since I'm busier than usual, including a move, or I should say two moves.  I moved to a new apartment in Boulder, Colorado (from a temporary apartment in Boulder) and am in the process of moving from my primary residence apartment in New York City out to Boulder.  I was also busy attending a conference on private equity in New York.  And next week I'll be out visiting some friends on Cape Cod.  And the next week I'll be finalizing my move to Boulder.  Somewhere in there I'll try to do a little blogging, if I can first catch my breath.
