Got Pownced
Last week I ruminated about what I might do if I ever got invited to join the new social network called Pownce. On a lark, I did in fact submit a request for an invite and just yesterday I got an email announcing that I was indeed being invited to join the club. I thought about it for a few minutes and decided to go ahead and join since there was no charge and I am interested in keeping up on technology, even if I don't have any immediate need or desire to use it myself.
So, what can Pownce do? According to the web site:
Pownce is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You'll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.
They also say:
Pownce is a way to send stuff to your friends. What kind of stuff? You can send just about anything: music, photos, messages, links, events, and more. You can do it all on our web site, or install our lightweight desktop software that lets you get out of the browser.
Who is behind Powce? According to their About page:
Pownce is brought to you by a bunch of geeks who were frustrated trying to send stuff from one cube to another.
The team consists of Leah Culver, Daniel Burka, Kevin Rose, and Shawn Allen (in that order below). Together, we formed a wee company with a great big name, Megatechtronium, that makes this software.
If you're on Pownce, I am JackKrupansky (big surprise and completely lacking in creativity). My Pownce page is at: http://pownce.com/jackkrupansky/. As you can see, I don't even have a picture.
I do in fact have a few invites that I myself can hand out.
Now I have to figure out how I can use Pownce in my own activities.
