Blog etiquette: More on responding to commenters

I had a further response to the person who queried me about blog etiquette for responding to commenters, beyond my intitial thoughts...

I glanced at the person's blog and saw a few very detailed comments that would be worthy of a continuing discussion. You don't need to answer such comments in the comments (especially since even someone subscribing to your "feed" won't be alerted when comments are added to a post that they've already read), but adding a new post (or even multiple posts) to build on the commenter's thoughts (and your own) can help to "continue the conversation".

Part of good blog etiquette should be a willingness to experiment and continually search for new ways to break out of the old box.

It looks like they have a solid start on their blog. The biggest challenge is simply to stick with it so that your readers get addicted to reading your latest thoughts.

Final thought: let your passion show. If two blogs had identical "facts", people will gravitate towards the writer who gets excited and gets them excited at the same time. Facts themselves can be quite dull, but you should feel free to take any and all opportunities to present them in a passionate manner that draws people in.

Alas, I fear that I'm not doing so well on that latter score.
